> > We've had to run the engine to charge the batteries much more often than we'd expected. While this isn't an immediate problem, it might become one if we run low on diesel fuel during the race and become unable to charge them. So, while parked yesterday, we took another look at the new high output alternator charging system. It had been set up to charge the engine battery first, then the house battery bank. This isn't the optimal set up so we switched it the other way around, so the house battery bank would be charged first, then the engine battery. During the re-wiring project, we also cleaned up a few dirty connections. We're pleased with the result, as we've been able to run many more hours on the last charge than before. > > Speaking of boat projects, the winch that was jury rigged with the sail tie has been performing flawlessly so far.
